We answer all your questions 😚
Why the United States and Canada?
The American educational system is the only one that allows students to combine competitive sports with university studies. In addition, thanks to athletic scholarships, athletes can cover a percentage of their academic expenses. In many cases, it’s even possible to combine athletic and academic scholarships to further reduce the total costs.
Schools in the United States offer sports scholarships to members of their athletic teams, allowing student-athletes to finance their education through sports.
This opportunity allows athletes to enjoy a unique experience that offers many advantages compared to the Spanish system: combining studies and sports, traveling across the United States with their sports team for free, earning an academic degree from an American institution, mastering English, meeting people from all over the world, and living unforgettable experiences. Thanks to sports, athletes gain access to a world of opportunities.
What level of English is required to study in the United States or Canada?
You should have an intermediate level that allows you to communicate with your teachers and classmates. Don’t worry about not being fluent, that’s one of the things you’ll gain from this experience.
How does the process of obtaining arts scholarships in the United States and Canada work?
The goal of Awex Education is to help athletes from all over the world gain access to educational institutions in the United States and Canada through athletic and/or academic scholarships. That’s why we work to find the best schools for each athlete, as well as the highest possible athletic and/or academic scholarships.
Here’s how the process of obtaining an athletic scholarship at an American educational institution works. The first part is where the athlete must focus on achieving the best possible athletic and academic results:
Achieve the highest possible athletic level: The better the athlete’s performance, the greater the chances of obtaining an athletic scholarship in the United States or Canada. A higher level also means a wider range of options to choose from. It’s important to plan athletic training sessions and competition schedules to achieve the best possible marks.
Achieve the highest possible academic level: It’s essential to focus on academics to reach the best possible level. This will increase the number of available options and may even lead to academic scholarships that further reduce annual costs. Preparing well in advance for the TOEFL and SAT exams is crucial.
The second part of the process is handled by Awex Education. It’s very important to contact Awex Education well in advance and start preparing early, as this significantly increases the chances of obtaining an athletic scholarship in the United States or Canada and having more options to choose from. We recommend starting the process 1–2 years before the intended start date in the U.S. or Canada.
We analyze each case individually, assessing the student’s athletic and academic levels, as well as their expectations and those of their family. At Awex Education, we carry out this evaluation FREE of charge, with no obligation, and meet with the athlete and their family to explain the real possibilities. Once the family decides to begin the process, we handle the following steps:
We study each athlete’s individual case, including their athletic and academic levels and preferences regarding schools. We look for options that best match the athlete’s profile and the family’s academic, athletic, and financial preferences.
We create a personal follow-up plan for each athlete, where we outline the steps to take, exam dates, preparation timelines (depending on league requirements), and short-, medium-, and long-term goals.
We provide support for SAT and TOEFL exam registration.
We assist in creating the athletic video, offering advice and guidance to ensure it’s effective — a crucial step since coaches recruit based on this video. We handle the final editing of the athlete’s video.
With the final video ready, we create an academic and athletic profile for the athlete to contact track and field coaches.
We start contacting schools that match the athlete’s profile and family preferences. We work with a wide range of educational institutions across the United States and Canada.
We negotiate with each coach or school to obtain the highest scholarship and best possible conditions for every athlete.
We present a detailed report with several options well in advance so families can make an informed decision. The report includes information such as school name, location, size, academic level, athletic level, price without scholarship, scholarship amount, and annual cost.
We always offer several alternatives within the family’s budget so they can choose the best fit.
We assist the athlete and family in choosing the right school, providing advice and guidance, while the final decision remains with the family.
We handle the signing of the final offer with the chosen educational institution.
We manage the academic league admission process (NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA).
We take care of the school admission process, including transcript submission, SAT and TOEFL score delivery, and all required paperwork.
We arrange meal plans and housing for the athlete.
We handle the medical insurance process in the U.S. and Canada.
We take care of the student visa application for both countries.
We organize flights and arrival logistics to ensure the athlete has support upon arrival.
We assist with arrival guidance, such as sending money, opening bank accounts, and answering questions during the first days in the U.S. or Canada.
We help athletes find on-campus jobs when available.
We provide continuous support throughout the athlete’s stay in the U.S. or Canada for any questions, school changes, or necessary paperwork — all at no extra cost.
For students in their junior or senior year of university, we offer a career-preparation course at a British university that helps them transition into the professional world and secure job offers.
Finally, one of the most important aspects that sets our service apart is our personalized approach. We maintain constant communication with our athletes and their families through WhatsApp or calls, and in case of emergencies, we can be contacted at any time, even outside office hours.
Academic requirements
Another key factor in being accepted into a good educational institution is the academic component — including high school grades, SAT scores, and TOEFL results. If two students have a similar athletic level but differ significantly in their academic performance, the coach will usually offer the athletic scholarship to the student with the stronger academics.
This is because student-athletes must meet certain minimum requirements, making the academic aspect just as important as athletics in several ways:
Athletic eligibility: Students must meet minimum grade and exam requirements to be accepted into collegiate athletic leagues.
School admissions: To be admitted to educational institutions, athletes must meet the academic requirements on the SAT and TOEFL exams.
Academic scholarships: It’s also possible to earn an academic scholarship that can be added to the athletic scholarship, resulting in a higher total amount of financial aid. To qualify, students need strong grades and high SAT and TOEFL scores.
Therefore, the higher the grades, the wider the range of opportunities available to the athlete — and the greater the amount of scholarship money offered by the school.
Each school and coach has different minimum academic requirements. That’s why, at Awex Education, we carefully study each student’s academic and athletic profile to find the institution that best fits every athlete.
Is everything 100% validated?
At Awex Education, we take care of managing the documentation so that the course accreditation is a success.
Are the British B1, B2, and C1 exam models valid? What test do they require? Is it preferable to take the TOEFL or the IELTS?
British models are not generally accepted by universities; the most common ones are Duolingo, TOEFL, and IELTS. Any of the three is valid, although the latter two are more prestigious due to their greater difficulty and length.
