Below we explain how the process of obtaining an athletics scholarship at an American educational institution works. This first part is where the athlete must put in the effort to achieve the best athletic and academic results:

Achieve the highest possible athletic level:
The higher the athlete’s performance level, the greater their chances of obtaining an athletics scholarship in the United States or Canada. In addition, this will open up more options to choose from. It’s important to plan training sessions and competition schedules strategically to achieve the best possible results.

Achieve the highest possible academic level:
It’s equally important to focus on academics to reach the best possible academic performance. This will increase the available options and may even allow the athlete to receive academic scholarships, further reducing annual costs. Proper preparation for the TOEFL and SAT exams well in advance is essential.

The part handled by Awex Education

At Awex Education, we take care of the second part of the process. It’s very important to contact us well in advance to start preparing early. Doing so significantly increases the chances of obtaining an athletic scholarship in the United States or Canada, as it allows for more available options to choose from.
We recommend starting the process 1 to 2 years before the intended start date in the U.S. or Canada.

We individually analyze each case and assess the athlete’s chances of obtaining an athletics scholarship based on their athletic level, academic level, and family expectations. Once the family decides to begin the process, we handle the following steps:

• We study each athlete’s case individually — their athletic level, academic performance, and school preferences. We search for the best options that fit the athlete’s athletic, academic, and financial profile. We discuss with the family to understand their goals and provide the best possible matches.

• We create a personal tracking sheet for each athlete. In this document, we plan the steps to follow, exam dates, preparation timelines (depending on league focus), and short-, medium-, and long-term objectives for the process.

• We provide support for SAT and TOEFL exam registration.

• We guide and support the creation of the athletic video, offering advice on how to make a strong highlight video — a key element in the recruitment process. We take care of the final video editing.

• With the final video ready, we create an academic and athletic profile for the athlete, which we use to contact athletics coaches.

• We begin reaching out to schools that match the athlete’s and family’s preferences. We work with a wide network of educational institutions across the United States and Canada that fit each athlete’s profile.

• We negotiate with each coach or institution to obtain the highest scholarship and best possible conditions for each athlete.

• We present a report with several options well in advance so the family can make an informed decision. This report includes information such as: school name, location, size, academic level, athletic level, tuition before scholarship, scholarship amount, and final annual cost.

• We always provide several options within the family’s budget, so they can choose the best fit.

• We assist the athlete and family in choosing the right school, offering advice and guidance — though the final decision always rests with the family.

• We handle the signing of the final offer with the chosen school.

• We complete the academic league admission process (NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA).

• We manage the admission process with the selected school (transcripts, exam submissions, admission paperwork, etc.).

• We arrange meal plans and accommodation for the athlete.

• We handle the medical insurance process in the United States or Canada.

• We manage the student visa process for the U.S. and Canada.

• We organize flights and arrival logistics, ensuring the athlete has support upon arrival.

• We assist during the athlete’s arrival with advice and practical help (money transfers, bank cards, first-day questions in the U.S. or Canada).

• We help with on-campus job opportunities when available.

• We provide continuous support throughout the athlete’s stay in the U.S. or Canada for any needs — school changes, questions, paperwork, or other issues — all with NO extra cost.

When students reach their third or fourth year of university, we also offer those interested a course at a British university designed to prepare them for the professional world and help them secure job offers.
