Sports Scholarships in the United States and Canada
Your dream come true
It’s time!
At Awex Education, we deeply understand athletes because nearly 100% of our team members were student-athletes themselves. We know how challenging it is to balance sports discipline with academics while excelling in both areas.
Sports scholarships are our specialty, whether for high school or university, in the United States or Canada. We offer numerous programs that provide the opportunity to combine academics with sports. Additionally, sports can significantly help reduce the final cost.
Being a good athlete is not enough to apply for these programs; the academic side must also be strong. The better the student’s overall profile, the greater the financial aid they can receive.

We Answer Your Questions
The American educational system is the only one that allows athletes to balance competitive sports with university studies. Additionally, sports scholarships can cover a percentage of academic expenses, and there are often opportunities to combine these with academic scholarships to further reduce overall costs.
Schools in the United States offer sports scholarships to team members, enabling athletes to fund their education through sports.
This opportunity allows athletes to experience many advantages compared to the Spanish system: balancing studies and sports, traveling for free across the United States with the sports team, earning an academic degree from a U.S. institution, achieving perfect English proficiency, meeting people from various countries, and living unforgettable experiences. All of these opportunities open up a world of possibilities for athletes thanks to sports.
Each sports league has a maximum number of scholarships available, and within these limits, the school allocates the scholarship funds as deemed appropriate.
Coaches at educational institutions distribute the scholarship money as full or partial sports scholarships to team members. Typically, athletes need to be among the best on the team to receive a sports scholarship. There are also opportunities known as “walk-ons,” which allow players to join the team without receiving a sports scholarship. After a year in this role, based on the player’s performance, they may earn a sports scholarship for subsequent years.
The goal of Awex Education is to ensure that athletes from around the world can gain access to an educational institution in the United States and Canada with a sports and/or academic scholarship. Therefore, we seek the best centers for each athlete, as well as the maximum sports and/or academic scholarship.
Here’s how the process of obtaining a sports scholarship at an American educational institution works. This first part is where the athlete must work to achieve the best sports and academic results:
- Achieve the highest athletic level possible:** The higher the athlete’s level, the greater the chances of obtaining a sports scholarship in the United States and Canada. Additionally, a higher level will provide a wider range of options to choose from. It is important to plan athletic training and competition schedules to achieve the best possible results.
- Achieve the highest academic level possible:** It is very important to focus on academics to reach the highest academic level. This way, more options will be available and even academic scholarships can be obtained to reduce annual costs. Proper preparation in advance for the TOEFL and SAT exams is fundamental.
In the second part of the process, we at Awex Education take charge. It is very important to contact Awex Education well in advance and start preparing the process early, so that we increase the chances of obtaining a sports scholarship in the United States and Canada, thereby having more options to choose from. We recommend starting the process 1 to 2 years before the intended start date in the United States and Canada.
We analyze each case individually and its possibilities of obtaining a sports scholarship in the United States based on the level of athletics, academics, and the expectations of the student and their family. At Awex Education, we conduct this FREE evaluation without any commitment and meet with the athlete and their family to explain the real possibilities. Once the family decides to start the process, we handle the following steps:
- Study the individual case of each athlete, sports level, academic level, and preferences regarding the educational institution:** We look for options that best fit your preferences and athletic, academic, and financial profile. We talk to the family and study what they are looking for to offer the best options that meet the family’s requirements.
- Create a personal tracking sheet for each athlete’s case:** In this tracking sheet, we plan with the family the steps to follow, exam dates, preparation for these exams (depending on the league’s focus), as well as short, medium, and long-term goals of the process.
- Provide support for SAT and TOEFL exam registration.
- Offer support in creating the sports video with advice and guidance to produce a good video: The video is crucial as it will be used for recruitment. We handle the final editing of the athlete’s video.
- With the final video in hand, create an academic and athletic profile of the athlete to contact athletic coaches.
- Start contacting schools that match the athlete’s profile and preferences:** We work with most educational institutions in the United States and Canada, in all states that correspond to the athlete’s profile.
- Negotiate with each coach or school to obtain the maximum scholarship and the best possible conditions for each athlete.**
- Present a report with several options in advance for decision-making: The report includes information such as the name of the school, location, size, academic level, sports level, price without scholarship, scholarship amount, and annual cost.
- Offer several options within the budget: We will always provide multiple alternatives so that families can choose from them.
- Help the athlete and their family in selecting the school: We advise and guide, but the final decision is made by the family.
- Process the signing of the final offer from the chosen educational institution.
- Manage the admission procedure with the academic leagues in which the school competes (NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA).
- Handle the admission process with the chosen school (sending transcripts, sending SAT and TOEFL scores, admission paperwork).
- Prepare meal and accommodation plans for the athlete.
- Take care of obtaining medical insurance in the United States and Canada.
- Handle the student visa application for the United States and Canada for each athlete.
- Organize flights and arrival arrangements for the athlete to ensure someone is there upon arrival.
- Assist with arrival at the school with advice and help with questions (money transfers, bank cards, questions upon first arrival in the United States and Canada).
- Help in obtaining academic work within the school.
- Provide support throughout the athlete’s stay in the United States and Canada for any needs, including school changes, questions, or paperwork, all at NO extra cost.
- When students are in their third or fourth year of university, we offer a course at an English university that prepares them for the job market and helps them secure job offers.
In addition to all this, a very important factor that distinguishes our service is the personalized attention: We maintain continuous contact with our athletes and families. We communicate via WhatsApp or calls, and in case of emergencies, you can contact us at any hour outside office hours.
Another important part of securing a good educational institution is the academic aspect, including high school grades, SAT and TOEFL scores… If two students have very similar athletic levels but there are significant differences in their academic performance, the coach will usually offer the athletic scholarship to the better student.
This is because students must meet minimum academic requirements, making the academic part as important as athletics in several aspects:
Athletic acceptance: Minimum exam scores must be met to be accepted into athletic leagues.
To be accepted into schools, the athlete must meet academic requirements in SAT and TOEFL exams.
It is even possible to obtain an academic scholarship that can be added to the athletic scholarship amount, resulting in a higher total scholarship. To obtain academic scholarships, good grades and results in SAT and TOEFL exams are required.
Therefore, the higher the grades, the greater the range of options available to the athlete and the more money received from the institution.
Each school or coach has different minimum academic levels they require. Therefore, at Awex Education, we study each academic and athletic profile to find the school that best matches each athlete.
Athletic scholarships in the United States and Canada cover a percentage of the following expenses. In the case of receiving a full athletic scholarship, all these costs will be covered:
- Tuition and fees
- Books
- Housing (Dormitory or apartment)
- Meals
- Health insurance
Additionally, all students at the institution, whether they have a scholarship or not, always have the following covered: athletic expenses, training, sports equipment, official competitions, travel to competitions (transportation, accommodation, and meals) academic tutors if help is needed with classes,Sports medicine, physiotherapy
Coaches assess athletic level through several factors:
- Official times or records
- National and international competitions
- Demonstration video
